Engine damage off St. Albans Head
The "Claude A. Desgagnes" suffered engine problems on April 21, 2019, at 08.30 a.m. en route from Esbjerg to Houston with a crew of 18 on board. The ship went adrift 24 miles south-southeast of St. Albans Head in position 50 11 42 N, 001 53 36 W with 3.8 knots speed. The crew started replacing the engine injector no.4 cylinder and required to drift for up to two hours. within the southwest lane of the English Channel TSS. The vessel was loaded with 2230 tons of bulk cargo and equipment containers. At 11.40 a.m. the damage was repaired, and the ship resumed its voyage with an ETA as of May 5.
Groupe Desgagnés adds new ice-class vessel to fleet
Quebec City-based Groupe Desgagnés has added the 18th vessel to its general cargo, tanker and passenger fleet and will put it to work in the Eastern Arctic and in international service. The Claude A. Desgagnés was built and launched in China last year and was acquired for $25 million. It is named after Capt. Claude Desgagnés, a 50-year veteran of the transportation group, whose roots go back to the 19th century. The new ice-class A vessel is 139 metres long and has 20,000 cubic metres of freight capacity. It will fly the Canadian flag. The acquisition is part of Groupe Desgagnés’s long-term $250 million expansion program launched in 2008-2009.
