Medevac off Lanzarote
A helicopter medevaced a man from the 'Volcan de Teide' on Aug 29, 2020, who fell ill in serious condition when the ship was about 320 miles from the island of Lanzarote. Around 1:00 a.m. the National Maritime Rescue Center received a notice from the ship stated that the ship's medical services were treating a male who needed to be evacuated from ship by air. The Las Palmas Rescue Coordination Center mobilized the Helimer 222 helicopter which rendezvoused with the ferry about 150 miles from the island of Lanzarote. The patient arrived on the island around 9:30 a.m., and was transferred to the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote. A doctor and a medical ambulance were waiting at the airport facility, which finally took him to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, where the patient was admitted in serious condition.
Medevac off Las Palmas
The Helimer 223 helicopter of Salvamento Marítimo carried out the medical evacuation of a 69-year-old passenger from the 'Volcán del Teide' in the afternoon of March 25, 2020. The ferry was enroute from Arrecife to Las Palmas. The patient was safely hoisted and transferred to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas.
Ferry assisted in rescue of migrants
Between Huelva and Lanzarote, the "Volcan de Teide" assisted a boat with 16 migrants on board about 58 miles northeast of La Graciosa on Apr 2, 2018. They were rescued at sea and taken to Puerto Naos (Arrecife) around 7 p.m. aboard the "Salvamar Al Nair", after they were detected by the ferry that turned around to check the status of the migrants. All of them male and of Moroccan nationality, four were transferred to the health center of Valterra, in Arrecife.
