No bright start for China Star - to sail in the next months...

Fri Jul 13 09:49:08 CEST 2012 arnekiel

China Star, the luxury cruise ship bought by Zhejiang tycoon Huang Weijian at the end of last year, is ready for its first voyage soon. The refitted cruise ship had its trial voyage in March and was set to start operations in May, but the first voyage was postponed primarily due to financial reasons. “The service level onboard hadn’t reached the required standard, but we are improving it now. Also four of our shareholders went bankrupt during the financial crisis in Zhejiang Province not very long after we bought the cruise ship. We have also been looking for new shareholders. Hopefully we will start operations in the next couple of months,” Huang told local media.

Chinese Tycoon to Launch Cruise Ship China Star on March, 8

Thu Mar 01 10:46:48 CET 2012 arnekiel

A one-of-a-kind twin-hull cruise ship will set sail from Hong Kong on March 8, after being transferred to a Chinese mainland tycoon, his first step in building the first Chinese cruise ship fleet, City Press reports. Huang Weijan, an entrepreneur from Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province, bought the then six-star 'Asia Star' from Stanley Ho, the 'King of Gambling' in Macao for 283 million Yuan (45 million dollars). 'It's really a cheap deal!' Huang said, satisfied with his investment. Built in 1992, 'Asia Star' is the twin-hull luxury cruise ship and cost more than 200 million Yuan to construct. Huang has chosen to rename it 'China Star'. Huang told reporters that the 'China Star' will be a high-end business and entertainment venue which will have the normal cruise amenities and be a platform for Chinese mainland culture. It not only serves coffee and western dishes but also provides fish cakes, a traditional Wenzhou snack food. For Huang, 'China Star' is only the first step of his ambitions to build a 'Cruise Ship Empire'. He is planning to buy 4 to 5 cruise ships, running lines to South Korea, Japan and Russia and to provide services including travel, filmmaking, entertainment, business and professional communication. http://english.cri.cn/6909/2012/03/01/3141s683985.htm
