Coast Guard interdicted six lanchas

The US Coast Guard interdicted six lanchas and seized 1,300 pounds of illegally caught fish in federal waters off southern Texas. Boat crews from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island and the 'Jacob Poroo', in coordination with Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi aircrews, located and stopped a total of 26 Mexican fishermen engaged in illegal fishing north of the Maritime Boundary Line. After interdicting the lanchas, Coast Guard personnel seized 1,300 pounds of red snapper and shark, along with fishing gear and high flyers on board the vessels. Coast Guard crews detained the Mexican fishermen, brought them ashore, and transferred the detainees to U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for further processing. Lanchas are frequently used to transport illegal narcotics to the U.S. and illegally fish in the United States’ Exclusive Economic Zone near the U.S./Mexico border in the Gulf of Mexico.

Five lanchas interdiced with illegally caught red snapper off Texas

The US Coast Guard and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) interdicted five lancha crews and seized approximately 2,640 pounds of illegally caught red snapper in waters subject to U.S. law enforcement off southern Texas, on Dec 9. 2023. Boat crews from the Coast Guard Station South Padre Island and the 'Jacob Poroo', in coordination with Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi aircrews, located and stopped a total of 16 Mexican fishermen engaged in illegal fishing aboard four lanchas north of the Maritime Boundary Line. After interdicting the lanchas, Coast Guard personnel seized 2,090 pounds of red snapper in addition to fishing gear and high flyers on board the vessels. Coast Guard crews detained the Mexican fishermen, brought them ashore, and transferred the detainees to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for further processing. Fishing vessel towed to Port Aransas

TheCG 'Jacob Poroo' assisted five crew members aboard the 43-foot fishing vessel 'Lucky Dog' offshore Galveston, Texas, on Feb 13, 2022. On Feb 12 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a phone call from the crew of the fishing vessel, reporting they had no power or propulsion and were adrift approximately 190 miles off Galveston. The Coast Guard Cutter was tasked to assist. After the arrival on scene, the five fishermen were transferred aboard, and the ship began towing the vessel towards the coast. Underway the tow line parted, which resulted in a Coast Guard Station Port Aransas 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew launching and taking over the tow. Upon nearing the shore, the 'Lucky Dog' was transferred to a Seatow tug, which finished towing the vessel to the Port Aransas Marina.
