Coast Guard Cutter assisted mariner
The 'William Hart' assisted one mariner and two dogs aboard the disabled 32-foot sailboat 'Wind Rush' north of Oahu on May 9, 2022. The yacht was disabled with fouled sails, rigging, and an inoperable motor 5-miles off Kaena Point. At 6:14 a.m, Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report from the mariner aboard the 'Wind Rush' stating his vessel was disabled off Kaena Point. The mariner stated he had been adrift for 12 hours and was managing his drift, but was not able to maneuver and was out of food and water. He was also suffering from an injury to his hand and was unable to work the vessel’s rigging. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders issued a Marine Assistance Request Broadcast and launched the 'William Hart' to assist. The 'William Hart' towed the vessel 10 miles back to Waianae Boat Harbor. The mariner was suffering from a hand injury and is reported in good condition. Coast Guard Cutter rescued single hand sailor
Coast Guard and partner agencies have rescued Philip Grenz, the operator of the disabled sailing vessel 'Epic', approximately 310-nautical miles southwest of Oahu, on Sep 10, 2021. The crew of the 'William Hart' rescued Grenz, last seen Sep. 2, and took him back to Oahu. He was in stable condition. On Sep 4 at 1:25 a.m. onSector Honolulu watchstanders received a report of the missing mariner who departed Nawiliwili Harbor and had not arrived at his next port of call in Haleiwa, Oahu. Upon notification, watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched Coast Guard search crews including the Auxiliary, who assisted in the search by conducting physical checks of over 20 harbours, boat ramps, and marinas throughout Oahu and Kauai. At 10:30 a.m. on Sep 9, a Navy P-8 Poseidon aircrew located the missing vessel approximately 310-nautical miles southwest of Oahu. An Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules aircrew dropped a rescue kit that contained a radio, water, and food. Watchstanders requested that the nearby tanker 'Delta Eurydice' remained in the vicinity of the disabled vessel until the 'William Hart' arrived on scene at approximately 7:20 a.m. Sector Honolulu watchstanders issued a Hazard to Navigation Broadcast to mariners alerting them to the disabled vessel’s location. Reported weather on scene was winds of 11 mph and seas up to five feet.
