37 Cubans transferred to Bahamian authorities after two spearate rescues
The 'Wiilliam Flores' transferred 37 Cubans to Bahamian authorities on Jan 12 after two separate rescues off the Bahamas. A Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew from Air Station Miami notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders on Jan Jan 9 of a group of people waving their arms in distress on Cay Sal Bank, Bahamas. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders, on Jan 10, of a group of migrants stranded on Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. The aircrew dropped food, water and a radio to establish communications. The Bahamian authorities requested U.S. Coast Guard agency assistance in rescuing the people off both uninhabited islands. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Northland’ arrived on scene and brought the migrants aboard, due to safety of life at sea concerns. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, the migrants were processed to determine their identity and are provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation to their country of origin or return to the country from which they departed.
Migrant boat with 20 Cubans interdicted off Key West
The 'William Flores' repatriated 20 Cubans and two dogs to Cuba on Jan 9, 2025, following an interdiction of a migration attempt in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 aircrew notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel on Dec. 30, approximately 36 nautical miles south of Key West. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, the migrants were processed to determine their identity and are provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation to their country of origin or return to the country from which they departed. Coast Guard Cutter repatriated 56 Cubans
The 'William Flores' repatriated 56 migrants to Cuba on Jan 2, 2024, following multiple interdictions off the Florida Keys. Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations crews interdicted three migrant voyages off Florida's coast and in the Florida Straits from Dec. 26, 2023 through Dec. 29. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, all migrants received food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention.
