On March 5, 2023, the crew of the 'Tampa' spotted a suspocious overloaded sailing vessel entering Bahamian waters at 10.30 a.m. The patrol boat followed the vessel. As it approached the Haitian sailing vessel, some of the adult migrants threatened to harm a few young children, if the 'Tampa' came any closer. After the Coast Cuard shadowed the boat for several hours and tried to deescalate the situation, the crew of the 'Tampa' was able to gain compliance. There was a total of 145 people aboard, who were transferred to the Royal Bahamian Defence Force to undergo Bahamian immigration processing.
