Coast Guard ship "Eagle" back on high seas
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, a training tall ship for Coastie cadets, is due to sail this morning after a four-day visit to the Charlestown Navy Yard. The Eagle has been sailing since March throughout the Caribbean, Canada and along the Eastern Seaboard, according to the ship’s website. The next stop for the Eagle will be Portsmouth, N.H., from Aug. 2-5. The Eagle, formerly the German navy ship Horst Wessel, was built in 1936 in Hamburg. It was used to train naval cadets in Nazi Germany, but was taken as a war prize by the U.S. after World War II. It sailed across the Atlantic to its current home at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., and is now used by the Coast Guard to train up to 150 cadets at a time. - See more at: http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/07/coast_guard_ship_back_on_high_seas#sthash.6dgt9DaX.dpuf
