Grounded purse seiner sank days after accident
The 'Cevdet Karadeniz 1' ran aground on Jan 25, 2020, at Karanlık Kayalıkları near Babakale in the Ayvacık district in a storm. It got stuck in pos. 39 27 24N, 26 13 30E on a reef 50 meters off the shore and suffered hull damage with ensuing water ingress. Despite attempts to refloat the ship with salvage teams and the Turkish Coast Guard, the ship finally sank on Feb 1 with only parts of the wheelhouse and the booms still protruding from the water. The crew of 15 was saved after the grounding.
