LNG production has resumed
The production of LNG and the loading of cargoes have resumed at the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) on Dec 4, after the 'Cesi Qingdao', which had lost power on Nov. 22, leading to a halt in shipments because it blocked other tankers from entering the facility on Curtis Island off Australia’s east coast, has been moved out from the facility in the early morning of Dec 1. Three LNG cargoes faced delays as a result of the power outage. The 'Cesi Qingdao' was anchored off Curtis Island in pos. 23° 51.04' S 151° 27.58' E, while the LNG tanker 'Abuja II' departed from APLNG on Dec. 2. The 'Mu Lan' was moored at the APLNG facility.
Tanker moved away
The 'Cesi Qingdao', which had been stuck at the Curtis Island terminal, near Gladstone, since Nov 21, with a failed generator, could finally moved away from the berth on Dec 1. The ship was towed to the outer anchorage and moored in pos. 23° 51.12' S 151° 27.89' E. Terminal loading operations had been blocked for 10 days.
LNG tanker broke down at terminal
The 'Cesi Qingdao' lost power on Nov 22, 2023, while berthed at the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) in 'Gladstone due to a generator failure. The APLNG, which has a capacity of nine million metric tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG, can only take one vessel at a time and on average loads one tanker every three days. Repair work was underway, while the cause of the incident was unknown and to be be fully investigated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. Two vessels due at the terminal have already been deferred and more will follow unless the 'Cesi Qingdao' can be moved away.
