Steering trouble off Lizard Point
The 'Cembay', while en route from Torbay to Santander with eight crew members on board in ballast condition, experienced a restricted manoeuvrability while sailing at a speed of nine knots due to an issue with its steering in position 49 31 45 N, 004 57 03 W 28 miles southeast of Lizard Point on Feb 27, 2020. The vessel headed to Plymouth, using its emergency steering and reached the port at 8 p.m.
Fire at Chatham Docks
30 firefighters had to tackle a blaze aboard the "Cembay" at Chatham Docks on May 17, 2011, at 12.30 p.m. after the fuel container on the vessel, which was carrying cement, caught light. Medway Coastguard and the Sheerness off-shore lifeboat were also called to the scene. It appeared that there was a break in the fuel line to a generator which was being used to pump cement out of the ship. This caused the fire in the fuel container on top of the ship. The ship's crew initially tackled the flames and then firefighters were able to isolate the fuel supply and extinguish the blaze using specialist foam. The ship meanwhile departed from Chatham bound for Le Havre. Report with photo: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/news/2011-1/may/17/cargo_ship.aspx
