Cruise ship investigated liferaft off Bermuda

Thu Nov 09 11:03:02 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Celebrity Silhouette' located a liferaft 290 nautical miles northeast from Bermuda, and the ship and a U.S. Coast Guard C130 aircraft conducted a search of the area to ensure no vessels were in distress on Oct 29, 2023. At 3:25 p.m. the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was advised by email from the cruise ship that they had sighted an inflated liferaft at 2:20 p.m. approximately 290 nautical miles northeast from Bermuda. The ship continued on its way without satisfying further questions from BMOC and the US Coast Guard who were also advised of the sighting. The 'Celebrity Silhouette' was tasked to return to the position of the liferaft, to ensure no persons were observed in distress. The US Coastguard also tasked a C130 aircraft to conduct a search of the area to ensure no vessels were in distress. Following subsequent confirmation from the 'Celebrity Silhouette' that no persons were inside the liferaft, and the C130 search did not observe any signs of distress, subsequent searches were stood down. The 'Celebrity Silhouette' arrived in Bermuda on Oct 30 as scheduled.

Inclement weather delays return to Southampton and following embarkation

Fri Oct 20 11:18:16 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'Celebrity Silhouette' has been delayed due to rough weather and will not return to Southampton as scheduled. As a result, the next sailing will have a slightly delayed embarkation, and guests were awaiting word about how to adjust their arrival at the cruise port. The vessel is currently sailing an 11-night Canary Islands and Portugal itinerary roundtrip from Southampton, but has encountered rough weather on her return to the UK. Because of this, guests on the next sailing have been notified that the ship will be delayed for her return on Oct 22. The subsequent embarkation of the next cruise will also be delayed. The ship berthed in Lison on Oct 19 and remained stationary for the time being. The exact amount of the delay has not yet been confirmed, but Celebrity Cruises will notify guests with updated embarkation times on Oct 21. The 'Celebrity Silhouette'‘s next sailing is her 11-night transatlantic repositioning cruise from Southampton to Fort Lauderdale, calling on the Azores, Bermuda, and Nassau along the way.
