Medevac and propulsion issue delayed cruise ship
The 'Carnival Liberty' was delayed in its return to New Orleans, Louisiana, after diverting to disembark an ailing passenger and then developing propulsion issues soon after. While the ship was initially supposed to dock on Dec 1 at 8 a.m. LT, it finally reached the port at midnight UTC. The ship originally called on Key West, Florida, as the first stop of the sailing on Nov 26. Due to a medical emergency onboard, the vessel circled back on Nov 29 to allow the passenger to receive urgent treatment from a local hospital. The ship developed propulsion issues after the diversion, which has caused the sailing speed. Carnival’s engineers were hard at work to address the issue. The other two calls on the itinerary on Freeport and Nassau took place on Nov 27 and Nov 28, before the medical evacuation and propulsion issues occurred.
Two medevacs off Louisiana
The US Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman on Oct 20, 2024, from the 'Carnival Liberty'. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report on Oct 19 from the cruise ship of the man with stroke-like symptoms while the ship was sailing approximately 55 miles southeast of Southwest Pass, Louisiana. On Oct 20, watchstanders received a report from the cruise ship of a 30-year-old woman with appendicitis-like symptoms while transiting near Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Watchstanders coordinated the launches of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to conduct the medevacs for both people. The aircrews arrived on-scene for each report respectively and transported them to University Medical Center to awaiting emergency medical services personnel. The man and woman were both last reported in stable condition. Report with video: https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/3940776/coast-guard-medevacs-two-off-louisiana-coast/

The 'Carnival Liberty; scheduled to depart from Bimini, Bahamas, on Dec 1, 2022, at 5 p.m. was delayed due to high winds, and the vessel remained in port until the NNE wind had died down sufficiently. Wind speeds were recorded at 15 miles per hour. The Carnival Cruise Line has reached out to passengers booked on the next cruise of the 'Carnival Liberty' to alert them to a delay for the vessel, which subsequently delayed the debarkation and embarkation for several hours at Port Canaveral on Dec 2. The vessel finally sailed from Bimini at around 7 a.m. on Dec 2.
