Hurricane Milton affects cruise schedules
Carnival Cruise Line has announced significant delays to several ships in the fleet due to the approaching Hurricane Milton. The cruise line has already informed guests that a cruise on the 'Carnival Paradise' has been cancelled and that the ship, while not cancelled yet, would not be able to return to port on Oct 10, 2024. The arrival of the 'Carnival Valor' in Miami on Oct 10 would be delayed. The 'Carnival Sunrise' would not be returning to Miami as scheduled on Oct 10. The 'Carnival Glory' would not be returning to Port Canaveral on Oct 11. Passengers were assured on Oct 9 that they would be kept updated on the situation and provided with available options as soon as possible.
Search for missing passenger suspended
On Nov 16 the US Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing 28-year-old passenger Tyler Barnett, who went overboard from the 'Carnival Glory' approximately 30 miles southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana. The Coast Guard crews searched approximately 5,625 square miles. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report on Nov 13 at around 12:40 p.m from the Carnival Cruise Line that they had an unaccounted-for passenger. He he was last seen on security camera at approximately midnight. Carnival reported on Nov 14 that they had discovered new security footage that showed a passenger going overboard in the early morning of Nov 13. Coast Guard District Eight watchstanders launched aircrews to conduct search and rescue efforts from the air and transmitted urgent marine information broadcasts and messages to commercial and recreational mariners operating in the Gulf of Mexico. Weather conditions presented challenges for the aircrews and included sustained 8-foot to 12-foot seas, limited visibility, and gale force winds during the active search efforts. Coast Guard assets involved in the search included: - HC-130 Hercules aircrews from Air Station Clearwater, Florida; - HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrews from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama; - MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Air Station New Orleans. The incident was under Coast Guard investigation.
Security footage showed man jumped over board
The man who disappeared from the 'Carnival Glory' appeared to have jumped overboard. Security footage showed the man jumping off the deck 4 around 1:40 a.m. LT after climbing on a lifeboat on Nov 13, the Coast Guard reported on Nov 15. He has officially identified the missing man as Tyler Barnett of Houma, Louisiana. Family members previously said Barnett’s passenger card was swiped at the ship’s casino at 12:15 a.m., and his room just before 12:30 a.m. Carnival crew members began searching for Barnett around 7:30 a.m. Watchstanders with its New Orleans sector were alerted to the incident just after 12:30 p.m. So far, crews have searched more than 200 miles of water for the missing passenger. The Coast Guard has since narrowed its search area roughly 30 miles southwest of the Southwest Pass. The arnival Cruise Line's Care Team was supporting the missing guest's family on board he ship, which arrived to Montego Bay, Jamaica as scheduled.
