Fishing vessel issued distress call
The 'Cape Elizabeth III' issued a distress signal in 000 29 09 N, 166 06 06 W, on April 23, 2022, at 06.35 a.m. UTC. Vessels in the vicinity were requested to keep a sharp lookout, assist if possible and report to the JRCC Honolulu.
Long range medevac in South Pacific
The Coast Guard conducted a long range medevac of a mariner in distress from the "Cape Elizabeth III" on the South Pacific on Sep 3, 2013. Watchstanders at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu received a call from the vessel agent, the Tri Marine Group, requesting assistance in transporting a crewmember to emergency medical services. A 36-year-old Panamanian man aboard the fishing vessel was suffering from symptoms of appendicitis. At 2:05 p.m., the JRCC launched an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from the Air Station Barbers Point. After a six-hour flight of approximately 3065 miles, the Hercules crew landed on Kanton Island where they met the patient. The patient was transferred by a helicopter from the "Cape Elizabeth III"’s sister ship, the "Cape Horn" to Kanton Island. The Hercules crew flew the patient to Pago Pago International Airport in American Samoa at 10:35 p.m. where they were met by emergency medical services. He was then taken by an ambulance to the LBJ Tropical Medical Center for further treatment.
