Damaged bulker still at anchor
The "Le Sheng" docked at Dique de Abrigo Ingeniero in Algericas on June 2 at 8 p.m. The ship had been at Carteya Guadarranque since May 30, 11 p.m. following its collision with the Panama flagged bulkcarrier "Cape Med" (IMO: 9316828), in the Bay of Algeciras which remained anchored in the Alpha area in the Bay of Algeciras, opposite the port area of Campamento (San Roque). Collision off Algericas
On May 30, 2014, the "Cape Med" was in collision with the "Le Sheng" in the Strait of Gibraltar. The accident occurred at 4:05 , when the unloaded "Cape Med" left the port of Gibraltar bound to Puerto Drummond, and the "Le Sheng" was heading to the Bay of Algeciras for provisioning operations. The "Le Sheng" ran into the port side of the "Cape Med", and its bow was crushed. The tugs "Salvamar Dubhe" and "Luz de Mar" were dispatched. The "Cape Med" suffered a leak in a ballast tank and water ingress. It anchored in the Alpha area in the Bay of Algeciras, opposite the port area of Campamento (San Roque. The "Le Sheng" had come from Huelva and was loaded with nickel. She moored at anchorage Delta. Both vessels were detained by the Maritime Authority of Algeciras and were impounded with 60000 resp. 30000 Euros.
