The Danish tug 'Westsund' (IMO: 7822421) which had been deployed from Aalesund to tow the wreck of the gutted 'Bukhta Naezdnik' from Tromsø to Bergen for dismantling, has been released from the job. Instead the two tugs 'Boa Balder' (IMO: 9462342 ), and 'Boa Odin ' (IMO: 9557927), were called from Bodø to carry out this task and arrived on Jan 12 resp. Jan 14. The 'Westsund' left the port on Jan 13. The convoy finally departed on Jan 16 at 2.35 p.m. The tow lasted for almost two weeks and arrived at the Norscrap West AS in Hanøytangen off Bergen on Jan 30 at 1 p.m. Norwegian reports and photos: https://www.blv.no/nyheter/her-sleper-de-den-brannskada-traleren-sorover/ https://www.itromso.no/nyheter/2020/01/16/Her-slepes-den-russiske-tr%C3%A5leren-av-g%C3%A5rde-20848029.ece https://www.itromso.no/nyheter/2020/01/14/To-nye-slepeb%C3%A5ter-hentet-til-Troms%C3%B8-for-%C3%A5-fjerne-tr%C3%A5lervraket-20829434.ece http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3100426# http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3100425
Towage postponed
On Dec 23, the Danish tug 'Westsund' (IMO: 7822421) was deployed from Aalesund to tow the wreck of the 'Bukhta Naezdnik' to Bergen for dismantling. On Dec 26 at 6.40 p.m. the ship arrived in Tromsø für this task. It was planned to start the operation on Dec 27, however, it had to be postponed due to stormy weather. The towage operation was postponed until the weather was suitable for safe towing. On Jan 9 the ships remained stationary at the quay with the trawler being kept afloat due to temporary seals. Wreck damaged during raising
The wreck of the 'Bukhta Naezdnik' was further damaged during the raising process. The chain has tore holes in the hull, so the wreck is no longer able to float on its own, though being largely out of the water and on even keel on Dec 4, still hanging in the lifting chains of the sheerleg 'Gulliver'. But instead of being returned to the quay, it may need to be carried away. The Norwegian Coastal Administration confirmed that the damage leads to delays in the removal of the vessel which may now have to be loaded onto a barge to be taken to Bergen. A suitable barge must now be found by the salvors.
