Trawler suffered steering trouble off Eyemouth

Tue Jan 31 12:21:19 CET 2017 Timsen

The Eyemouth RNLI lifeboat and its volunteer crew were launched on Jan 30, 2017, at 5:15 p.m. in order to assist the "Bright Ray - LH 163" which was experiencing steering problems. The lifeboat was quickly on scene, four miles to the north of Eyemouth and initially stood by and escorted the trawler back to harbour, the ship being able to use her emergency steering. On the final approaches to the harbour, the skipper requested that the lifeboat take her under tow as a safety precaution should the steering problem arise again. Once under tow, the "Bright Ray" was placed safely alongside, around 50 minutes after the initial launch. Disabled trawler towed to Eyemouth

Fri Dec 18 11:52:26 CET 2015 Timsen

On Dec 17, 2015, at 3 a.m. the Eyemouth ALB and its volunteer crew were launched after the trawler "Crystal Stream" requested assistance with the towing of another fishing vessel, the "Bright Ray - LH 163". The lifeboat was quickly alongside both vessels which were four miles north of Eyemouth and took up position as a stern tow in order to act as a brake to the "Bright Ray", which was being towed by fellow trawler "Crystal Stream". Working in conjunction with the "Crystal Stream", the lifeboat boat helped line the "Bright Ray" up for a safe entry into Eyemouth harbour. All three vessels were safely alongside by 04:30 a.m., after which the Eyemouth lifeboat was stood down, refueled and was made ready for service again.
