Disabled tanker towed to Brest
On Feb 20, 2016 at 5:37 a.m. the "Besiktas Orient", coming from Great Yarmouth, suffered propulsion failure enroute to Saint Nazaire. The crew was trying to repair the damage, the ship was adrift eastwards in a west wind of 50 km/h. When the ship was 35 nautical miles west of Pointe du Raz, the CROSS Corsen was alerted. At 2 p.m. the crew dropped anchor in order to slow its drift 24 miles west of the Pointe du Raz. Chasing its anchor, the ship continued to drift slightly to the east. Around 4 p.m., given the poor weather conditions and the risk that the ship would get too near the coast, the maritime prefect asked the owner formally to stop the danger before 7 p.m. At 4:10 p.m., with the agreement of the maritime prefect of the Atlantic, he signed a towing contract with Abeille International in order to tow the ship to Brest by the tug "Abeille Bourbon". At 5:10 p.m., the "Abeille Bourbon" sailed from its berth in Camaret and headed for the tanker which was taken in tow at 7.50 p.m. The convoy arrived in Brest in the night, and the ship docked at the CIB Brest Shipyard on Feb 21 at 1.45 a.m. French report with photo: https://www.premar-atlantique.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/abeille-bourbon-remorque-chimiquier-panne-propulsion-large-pointe-raz.html
