Ferry lost speed due to refrigerated oil - captain under suspicion of drunken sailing
The 'Bosfor Vostochny', which transported passengers between Vladivostok and Popov Island, lost its speed on Dec 27, 2021. It was planned to find out why the ship was filled with refrigerated fuel, as a result of which the ship lost its speed. In addition, a medical examination was to be carried out to determine whether the captain of the ferry was intoxicated during the voyage. This assumption appeared from the statements of the passengers. On Dec 28, people were transported to and from the mainland by hovercraft. A replacement ship was sought. After the annual repairs, the 'Bosfor Vostochny' had left for Popov Island on Dec 27, but lost its speed when approaching the island. The rescue vessel 'Kapitan Balashov' came to assost, but the ferry crew started the engine again and moored the vessel. A bus was waiting for passengers on the island.
