Bore Sea disabled in English Channel
Enroute from Leixoes to Rotterdam the "Bore Sea" was disabled by a cylinder damage in the morning of Dec 17, 2017, in the middle of the English Channel. At 09.15 a.m. he crew informed the CROSS Jobourg that the ship was in controlled drift situation 35 miles northeast of Barfleur. After several hours of unsuccessful repair attempts, it was decided to enter into a commercial towing contract with the company Multraship, whose tug, "Multratug 7" (IMO: 9817808), was by chance nearby, coming from Ceuta. It established a towing connection in the afternoon, but for lack of sufficient power, it simply kept the "Bore Sea" in its position while a second tug from the same company, the "Multratug 20" (IMO:9572006) was deployed to assist. It left the port of Ostende on Dec 17 at 8.45 p.m. towards the casualty and joined the convoy on Dec 18 at 1 p.m., having been deployed from Ostend. The convoy on its way to Rotterdam was followed by the Gris-Nez CROSS until it left the French territorial waters on its way to Rotterdam. The ferry berthed at the Cobelfret Terminal in Rotterdam on Dec 20 at 1.15 a.m. The ferry sailed again on Dec 20 at 5.30 p.m. on its return trip to Leixoes, ETA DEC 23.
