Search for lost fisherman terminated
The U.S. Coast Guard on Aug 17 suspended its search and rescue operations for a 36-year-old man who went overboard from the 'Blue WavE' off the coast of Nantucket. Crews from the USCG Air Station Cape Cod and Coast Guard Cutter Tybee carried out the search. Air Station Cape Cod began searching at 12:47 a.m. They searched 1,444 square nautical miles before suspending the search and rescue. In the morning of Aug 16 it had responded to a distress call from the vessel. The man was not wearing a life jacket. Under federal law, only children under 13 years of age are required to wear a life jacket. The vessel returned to port in the morning of Aug 18, where the crew members met with Coast Guard officials. They were waiting for the investigation to determine what happened. There were seven crew members on the vessel when it left port on Aug 13. It was scheduled to return after eight to 10 days. The man was a first-time crew member with Blue Harvest who had never fished with them before. However, he was an experienced fisher.
Search for man lost over board
The US Coast Guard has responded to a call off the Nantucket coast for a man overboard from the 'Blue Wave' on Aug 15, 2021. The man was not wearing a life jacket. Crews from the USCG Air Station Cape Cod were searching off the southeast coast of Nantucket after receiving a notification at 11:20 p.m. from the vessel. The man was woken up because he had the next watch, but never showed up. Air Station Cape Cod began searching at 12:47 a.m. on Aug 16. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Tybee' was assisting in the search too.
