Tanker allided with jetty in Brunsbüttel - master intoxicated
On May 16, 2019, at 12.30 a.m. the "Beethoven" allided with the jetty II of the old lock in Brunsbüttel when leaving the Kiel Canal towards the Northsea on its voyage from Antwerp to Immingham. Three pilings and the wall were damaged, the tanker suffered scratched. The ship was moored on the North West Anchorage off Brunsbüttel and moored in pos. 53° 52.95' N 009° 5.13' E. The police boat "Vossbrook" went alongside for investigations. Initially a technical failure was thought to be behind the accident, but then the officers remarked an aclohol smell when interrogating the captain. A test which was subequently carried out showed a result of 2,97 per thousand alcohol. The police thereupon took a blood sample and ordered the payment of a safety fine of 2.500 Euro ein. They launched an investigation against the captain, and the vessel was detained until a class survey and an appropriate crewing. It left Brunsbüttel on May 17 at 12.30 a.m. and resumed the voyage, arriving in Immingham on May 19 at 6.40 a.m. On May 20 at 4.15 p.m. she left port again, bound to Rotterdam, ETA May 21.
