Lock allision in Brunsbüttel
On Dec 25, 2014, at 2.10 a.m. the "BBC Vesuvius" allided with the steel covering of a gate of the Kiel Canal lock in Brunsbüttel. The freighter, which was on its way from Gdynia over Aabenraa to Port Said, ran into the cover plates on the northern wall and damaged them. The ship continued its journey at 9.20 a.m. In the lock a steel part was sticking six meters deep into the chamber and thereby prevented their further use. The damage should be resolved in the coming days, one personnel could be provided to carry out the work. The "BBC Vesuvius" was expected in Port Said on Jan 5, 2015.
