Two stowaways hid inside roter blades
On board the 'BBC Amethyst', which arrived in Vaasa en route from Izmir on Feb 5, 2023, there were two stowaways who applied for asylum. The 'BBC Amehyst' transported wind turbine parts to the port. It is considered likely that the two stowaways spent the journey hidden inside the rotor blades and managed to get on board together with the goods. There was enough room for the stowaways inside the rotor blades which have a diameter of two metres. The crew discovered the two stowaways when the ship transited the Kiel Canal from Feb 2 to 3. By then they had spent 12 days on board. The captain reported the stowaways to the authorities, and the crew monitored them for the remainder of the voyage. At the moment, there was no suspicions that the ship's crew would be involved in any way. Since the two stowaways immediately announced that they were seeking asylum in Finland, there is no basis for a criminal investigation. An asylum process has started and the Swedish Migration Agency has taken over the case from the border guard.
Allision in Kiel-Holtenau
Enroute from Norrköping to Rotterdam the "BBC Amethyst" allided with a lock of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau in the morning of April 7, 2019. At 6.45 a.m. the ship was about to enter the large Northern lock. But the speed was too high and the angle to too steep, so that the port side hit the roof of the control center of the locks, damaging it on a length of 4-5 meters. Also a part of the quay and the fender pontoons inside the lock suffered damage. Insiden the building were two persons who escaped unarmed. The damage was estimated to be in a five digit range. The police launched an investigation against the 51 year old piot. The lock could still be used. The ship continued the voyage at 9 a.m. and arrived in Rotterdam on April 9 at 10.15 a.m. Photo: https://forum-schiff.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23&p=158439#p158439
