Barge reached port of Wörth with own power
The "Bannweide" reached the port of Wörth on June 8 with own power after the fire at a gravel loading wharf in Leopoldshafen in the Germersheim community on June 6. As the technical facilities of the ship had not been affected by the place, it was able to proceed with own power. Investigations will now have to show if the ship may sail on also with a gutted cabin area.
Fire on the Rhine
On June 6, 2016, around 1 p.m. the "Bannweide", 1175 ts (EU-No.: 04604900) caught fire on the Rhine at river km 371 the Eggenstein-Leopolds Port in Karlsruhe. The crew of two remained uninjured after the fire ignited in the cabin area. The ship was underway to load a cargo of gravel and had on board 30 tons of diesel fuel which was threatened to explode as the fire was raging in the stern. Around 3 p.m. the fire rescue which was on site with two fire boats along with the marine police and other rescue forces such as Red Cross and Life Saving Society (DLRG)was able to extinguish the fire around 3 p.m. The surroundings were evacuated. Also the tug "Karlsruhe" and the workboat "Maxau" attended. On the whole 120 forces were on scene.
