Crew of former fascist mission ship suffering off Barcelona

Mon Nov 13 10:12:15 CET 2017 Timsen

The "C Star" which had been used by fascist activists in the Mediterranean is actually moored semi-abandoned five miles from Barcelona and with its crew receiving humanitarian aid following the charter by the xenophobic Generación Identitaria. A launch of the port authority was sent to the ship at the end of October and could verify that the eight members of Generación Identitaria were no longer aboard. The ship has been repainted and no longer carried any insignia of the xenophobic mission. Only the crew of Bangladeshi origin remaine on the ship in a desperate situation. The officers recommended the crew to try to catch fish and collect rainwater. The captain's intention was to enter a Catalan port, refuel and buy food for the hungry crew. The ship owner has abandoned the vessel, and they have no money to buy anything. Half marooned ship with damaged instruments anchored off Barcelona

Thu Sep 28 11:23:27 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "C-Star" has dropped anchor off the coast of Barcelona on Sep 27. She was half-marooned, with the navigational instruments damaged and the crew members, who survived thanks to humanitarian aid, asking to disembark the ship to return home. They had stayed 12 days off the port of Palamós without being able to enter. The Red Cross was urged to help for humanitarian reasons. At the request of the Maritime Captaincy of Palamós it coordinated a second food distribution and humanitarian aid for the nine crew members on board the vessel. 90 liters of water, 15 kg of prepared dishes, 18 kg of fruit, powdered milk, apple juice, pasta and rice were sent to the ship. A first distribution of food and warm clothing was carried out some day ago, besides making an assessmentregarding the situation of the crew. The Red Cross concluded that the "C-Star" was in a state of abandonment, without fuel and with basic navigational instruments being damaged, waiting for the owner to pay for fuel and groceries requested. The nine crew members from Sri Lanka were suffering from depletion and hunger, demanding payment of their salary and being in need of drinking water, food and clothing. They were in an evident state of fatigue and demanded their repatriation. To enter a Spanish port a foreign ship must have a consignee who does the paperwork and payments of what he needs. This procedure has not been done because the shipowner did not provide the funds needed. The "C-Star" also did not have a consignee. The solution will depend on the actions taken bythe Port of Barcelona or Maritime Captaincy. The ship has not requested to dock - which should be done through a consignee - and remained five miles east of the port guarded by the tug "Punta Mayor".

C Star in need of supplies at Palamós

Wed Sep 20 11:20:42 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "C-Star", which had been rented by the right extermist organization Defend Europe to prevent the rescue of immigrants in the Mediterranean and its arrival in Europe, remained on the coast of Palamós waiting for food and fuel, but was no longer manned by that group. The ship, with Cardiff shipowner and Mongolian flag, landed the eight members of Defend Europe in Malta three weeks ago, and on board only the nine Sri Lankan crew remained. The vessel sailed to Palamós with the intention of being in the port between 15 days and one month to stock up and wait to be chartered again because it had the telematic permission to do so. It arrived in Palamós in the night of Sep 15 and the arrival made both the maritime authority, Maritime Captaincy, and the Port Authority, Ports de la Generalitat, believe that it was still chartered by the right-wingers and forbid it from entering. The captain told that the had landed in Malta, the ship was no longer bearing inscriptions in this regard and needed water, food and fuel to fill the tanks with capacity for between six and eight tons of diesel. Despite having this information, both the Generalitat and the Government were being suspicious about the possible permission to enter the port to supply because the shipowner has not informed that it will make the necessary transfer of money by protocol. On Sep 18 a meeting was held in the Ministry of Development to determine what had to be done with this ship, and on Sep 20 therewas another in Palamós with all the parties involved to decide the measures to be taken. At least for humanitarian reasons the crew has to be provided with water and food.
