Investigation into fall from board underway
The person who fell from the 'Baltic Princess' has not yet been found. He ws suspected of having fallen overboard on the night of Nov 18. The Western Finland Coast Guard Section has launched an investigation into the rescue operation and currently investigating the course of events, which includes also to find out whether there was any negligence in the rescue work. The law enforcement unit is now examining video material and other material that the police have also seen before. Extensive searches were carried out in the Åland Sea on Nov 18 to find the passenger who may have fallen into the sea. A patrol boat at Mariehamn's sea watch, an SAR helicopter and a nearby Sea Watch patrol vessel were involved. The person was suspected of having fallen into the sea at 3 a,m,. The MRCC received information about the incident at 7 a.m. Tallink Silja explained the delay by the fact that there were some uncertainties surrounding the incident. The video footage of the camera surveillance was reviewed and the person was searched for on the ship. No observations were made and the person's friend had no knowledge that the person had actually jumped, slipped or fallen overboard.
Search for person who fell over board aborted
On Aug 25, 2019, around 7.45 a.m. a witness remarked someone falling over board from the "Baltic Queen“ in the Stockholm archieplago. Based on the precise account a specific search area could be established which was searched with a helicopter, boats and shore based teams, involving the Swedish Coast Guard, the Maritime Administration and the Rescue Society. However, at 11.45 a.m. the SAR operation was aborted after the area had been widened before. The ferry continued its voyage at 9.40 a.m.
Person jumped over board in Mariehamn
On Aug 15, 2019, at 5 a.m. a person wasjumped overboard from the "Baltic Queen" in Mariehamn. The ship's staff sounded alarm after seeing a person jump in the water when the ship was in port. They threw down a lifebuoy and managed to get the person into one of the ship's lifeboats. A patrol boat also came quickly to the scene. The person was taken to the Åland Central Hospital for care.
