Grounding in Kiel Canal
Enroute Rotterdam-St. Petersburg the "Evolution ran into the embankment of the Kiel Canal at the passing point Schacht/Audorf in the afternoon of Feb 27, 2012. The ship had suffered rudder failure following an engine blackout and veered to port. It got stuck between the pilings with its foreship. Around 9 p.m. the tugs "Holtenau" and "Falkenstein" were sent from Kiel and pulled the vessel off around midnight. The ship sailed to Kiel where it berthed at the Voith Quay around 2.30 a.m. on Feb 28. Here surveys were undertaken and investigations launched by the water police.
