Sailing yacht sank, crew rescued
On Apr 20, 2016, the "Azad" suffered water ingress off Fort-de-France in the middle of the Dominica channel. The crew of two French nationals had difficulties in controlling the flooding and alerted the CROSS Antilles - French Guiana at 4:41 a.m. Immediately the CROSS broadcasted a Mayday relay and taksed the "SNS 428" of the station Case-Pilote and a Dragon 972 helicopter of the Civil Security with a diver on board. The two sailors abandoned ship into a life raft and took with them a distress beacon. They were airlifted by helicopter at 6:09 a.m. and returned safely to Fort-de-France. The ship sank and did not represent a hazard to navigation, while the lifeboat recovered a dhingy and the life raft assisted by a customs boat.
