Ferry ran aground
The 'Ayis I' dragged anchor, went adrift off the coast of Maltepe and finally ran aground in stormy seas at the Maltepe Kumcular Pier in Istanbul on Nov 29, 2021. The tug 'Mehmetçik' of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety was sent to the scene as a precaution. Due to the constant beating on the stones the ferry capsized and partially sank during the night hours.
