Rescue operation terminated

Two sailors from La Réunion who had been injured in the capsize of their boat in the area of ​​the Island of Amsterdam on April 5, 2019, was completed on April 11. Another man of 52 years had died in the accident. The boat belonged to the "Austral" which was fishing in the area. The two rescued were able to join their ship which started its route back to La Réunion. Two teams from the Martin-de-Viviès base had been mobilized to take care of the victims. The body of the deceased had thus been transported aboard the ship, while the first sailor arrived at the base in the late afternoon of April 8. The second had stayed in the Entrecasteaux refuge with thtree rescuers before was finally able to join the base of Martin-de-Viviès in the early evening of April 10. In the morning of Thursday, April 11, he was able to return to the "Austral" with the agreement of the district chief and the doctor. The sailors on board, relief operations on shore are over. The operational services of SAPMER, mobilized jointly with those of the TAAF and the CROSS for nearly a week, remain edin permanent liaison with the crew of the ship, until its arrival at its home port where it should arrive in the middle of next week, depending on weather conditions.
