Container ship not aware of collision with trawler
On Nov 2, 2019, at 6 a.m. the Irish trawler 'Sean Og 2' reported a collision with the 'Atlantic Sea' 40 miles north of Malin Head in pos 55 57 08.4 N 007 15 36.0 W . The trawler suffered damages to wheelhouse and railings and some water ingress that stopped later. The ship headed to Killybegs for repairs at nine knots, course 216 deg. The coordination with the vessel was passed to Malin Head Coastguard. at 3.15 p.m. The 'Atlantic Sea' contined the voyage from Liverpool to Hamburg with an ETA as of Nov 4 at noon. It's crew had not ben aware of the incident. An investigation was being launched into the incident.
Crane crashed alongside yard newbuilding
On Oct 5, 2017, a crane at the Blohm & Voss Yard in Hamburg was destroyed during the storm Xavier. The 100-tons-crane at the Blohm & Voss Yard in Hamburg was knocked down by the British flagged roro ferry "Atlantic Sea", 100430 gt (IMO: 9670597), which was actually being fitted out at the yard quay. It was presumed to be a total loss. The 40 meter high crane had been fixed in a storm position before storm Xavier arrived. But the ferry was broken lose from its berth by wind gusts, and the stern drifted away from the quay. The foreship then allided with the crane which was pushed to the floor. Princess Anne christens giant ship on the Mersey as champagne smashed on its hull
Princess Anne smashed a bottle of champagne on the hull of a giant ship as part of an historic royal christening on the Mersey. The container ship Atlantic Sea became the first ship to have its naming ceremony on the Mersey in more than 50 years. Princess Alexandra was the last member of the royal family to celebrate a new ship on the Mersey , launching the HMS Devonshire in 1960. The Atlantic Sea is one of several new ships in the fleet of the Atlantic Container Line (ACL) shipping firm, which has just invested in a new European headquarters in Duke Street.
