Explosion in engine room

In the evening of Dec 11, 2019, an explosion occurred in the engine room of the ‚Atlantic Pioneer‘ off the coast of Hoek van Holland. The fire brigade attended with several units at the Berghaven in Hoek van Holland, joined by vessels from the Port Service and the KNRM. The Hoek fire brigade was the first to arrive on the spot and immediately boarded a KNRM lifeboat to carry out a preliminary survey on board, but found no fire as a result of the incident. A pipe in the engine room was probably broken, after which the explosion took place. The tanker was taken to Rozenburg, where it was berthed at 9.20 p.m. at the Northsea Way for further investigations. No one was injured.
