Aloe crew rescued crew of capsized catamaran

Fri Nov 18 11:19:55 CET 2016 Timsen

The crew of the "Aloe" while enroute from Monfalcone to Veracruz, ETA Nov 22, rescued three crew members of the catamaran yacht "Leopoard" on Nov 17, 2016, with assistance of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater aircrew more than 400 miles north of Dominican Republic. Watchstanders at the 7th Coast Guard District received an emergency position indicating radio beacon alert in the evening of Nov 16 from the 57-foot yacht "Leopard". The watch standers directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-130 Hercules airplane crew to search. The aircrew arrived on scene on Nov 17 at 2:49 a.m. and located the overturned sailboat with three people in a dinghy nearby. The aircrew then vectored in the crew of the "Aloe" who rescued the three mariners at approximately 5:30 a.m. No medical concerns were reported. The three mariners departed Chesapeake, Va., on Nov 12 to transfer the "Leopard" to Saint Martin.
