Repair woud cost more than £1 million

Thu Oct 13 18:54:50 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Ardent II" which was destroyed by a blaze won’t be repaired after it was estimated it would cost more than £1 million. Owner Hamish McPherson cannot afford to repair the ship following the devastating blaze. It has now been confirmed the most likely cause of the fire was an electrical junction box fault.

Investigation into cause of blaze could take months

Fri Aug 26 13:02:07 CEST 2016 Timsen

An investigation has begun into the cause of the massive blaze which destroyed the "Ardent II" at Peterhead Harbour on Aug 16. Fire crews from across Aberdeenshire were sent to battle the blaze but the ship could not be saved. The fire was so ferocious that crews had to stay at the dock for more than 24 hours while temperatures on the outside of the trawler reached 200 C. At its peak, it involved 34 firefighters from Ellon, Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Maud. No one was on board the vessel at the time of the blaze, but a fire engine remained on the scene well into the afternoon of Aug 17 to cool the trawler down so that investigators could move in. The fire service said their role in dealing with the blaze had been concluded. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch now confirmed that work had now started to piece together the circumstances surrounding the blaze. It could take months before findings have been reached.

Fishing vessel on fire in Peterhead

Tue Aug 16 18:17:52 CEST 2016 Timsen

Firefighters and the RNLI were called to the "Ardent II - INS 127" (IMO: 8420658) in to tackle a fire at Peterhead Harbour on Aug 16, 2016. Six Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances, including 34 firefighters, were trying to put out the blaze, which broke out at 5.40 a.m. No one was on board the boat at the time of the fire. At 11.30 a.m., the fire was affecting parts of the vessel including the accommodation area. By 1.45 .pm., crews started to damp down the fire. A lifeboat stood by the burning fishing vessel until 10 a.m. and helped to cool the deck and hull by using its water pump and hose as an aid to firemen.
