Injured fisherman medevaced off Newport
A US Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated an injured fisherman in the morning of Nov 19, 2019,, off the 'Arctic Storm' 10 miles southwest of Newport. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector North Bend received a report of an injury at 3:42 p.m. on Nov 18, while the 'Arctic Storm' was approximately 34 miles west of Newport. The man reportedly suffered a severe hand injury and needed a higher level of care within 24 hours. A medevac was determined to be the best course of action upon further amplifying information about the injury. A MH-65 Dolphin helicopteraircrew launched at 7 a.m. the next morning from the Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, rendezvoused with the 'Arctic Storm' at 7:36 a.m., and hoisted a 21-year-old male off the fishing vessel and transported him to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital in Newport for treatment. Medevac off Brookings
The CUS oast Guard medically evacuated an injured crewmember off the "Arctic Storm" 25 miles west of Brookings, Oregon, in the morning of Oct 22, 2018. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received notification of an injured man at 9:55 a.m. The man reportedly suffered blunt force trauma to the face from a loose crane hook. The sector’s flight surgeon recommended an immediate medevac, so the 47-foot MLB crew was launched to assist. A 47-foot boat of the Coast Guard Station Chetco River safely conducted the medevac of the 64-year-old male and transported him to shore for further medical care. The MLB crew stabilized the injured crew member and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services. Vessel's voyage terminated
A boarding team from the Coast Guard Cutter "Spar" terminated the voyage of the "Arctic Storm" after discovering numerous safety violations aboard the vessel on Jan 23, 2014. The crew of the "Spar" escorted the "Arctic Storm" back to Kodiak after boarding team members conducted the at-sea boarding and discovered six safety violations with the most significant being the 2006 expiration of their life raft and hydrostatic release. The crew of the "Arctic Storm" was met by personnel from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Kodiak and will be required to correct all discrepancies before setting sail again.
