Fire delayed Antarctica expedition
When the ARA 'Canal Beagle' was about to set sail for Antarctica expedition to deliver supplies to research stations, a fire broke out in an officer’s cabin on Jan 13, 2021. It spread to another cabin which was being used as a store room for mattresses and other ship’s supplies. The fire was prevented from spreading further and extinguishe by the crew. The ship , however, remained docked at the Buquebus Ferry Terminal as of Jan 18. The fire was thought to have been caused by an electric shortcut.
Canal Beagle broke down en route to the Antarctic
The "Canal Beagle" had to interrupt its voyage to the Antarctic while it was carrying fuel and supplies from the port of La Plata to Ushuaia. It suffered a malfunction in the operation of its propulsion system due to an engine damage that forced it to stop at the Military base in Puerto Belgrano near Bahia Blanca for repairs on Feb 5, 2013. The Antarctic Summer Campaign 2012/2013 will, however, not be affected by the damage. The company responsible for the repair was already working on board and it was estimated that the vessel would be sailing again in two weeks using spare parts of the "Cape Horn".
