Coast Guard searching for woman lost from ferry called off
A woman fell over board of the "Rosella" on Mar 12, 2016, at 11.30 p.m. in the Sea of Åland bout 20 kilometers southwest of Mariehamn. Both Finnish and Swedish sea rescue services participated in an SAR operation which ended without result in the morning of Mar 13, including several boats in the area. The lifeboat "Rescue Stenhammar" was searching off Räfsnäs outside Norrtälje. Fog initially prevented the helicopters on Finnish and Swedish side to take off. The Rescue Stenhammar from Räfsnäs, the Rescue Ulabrand from Åland, a boat of the ferry "Silja Symphony", another of the "Mariella" and the Coast Guard boat "PV 262" were involved in the SAR operation. After five hours the Finnish rescue command decided to end the search. The water temperature was just above zero so that people could survive just under an hour. The case was handed over to the police on Åland. Swedish report with photo: http://www.sjoraddning.se/rafsnas/alarm/person-overbord/
