Abandoned Andromeda taken in tow
The "Andromeda" which was adrift on the Northsea since its crew was hoisted in the midday hours of Nov 25 was taken in tow by a salvage tug from Noorgat, Terschelling, after a surveillance plane of the Dutch Coastguard localised the ship on Nov 26 around midday. At 3.30 p.m. two salvors boarded the yacht which was 110 km north of Terschelling at that time and was expected there during the night hours.
Yacht in distress off Terschelling
The offshore platform "GSP Saturn" on Nov 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. reported that the "Andromeda" was in trouble after the motor had failed. Due to the stormy weather it was not possible to set sails. The yacht was located about 20 kilometers from the platform and about 95 km northwest of Terschelling. Two surveillance vessels of the platform were sent to the yacht but could not do anything because of the stormy weather with a south-westerly gale of 9 bf with wave heights of five meters or more. On board of the two masted yacht were two people who had already indicated the ship to leave. The Coastguard sent an offshore rescue helicopter which took off at 12.18 from Den Helder Airport and was expected at the casualty at 12.45.
