Wreck removed from Marport

On Jan 25, 2025, the wreck of the 'Amnah' has been removed from the dock in Marport, Istanbul, about one month after it sank during cargo operations. The ship, which was backed up with safety precautions, was tied to dock number 5 and the necessary safety precautions were taken. After the removal of the ship, seabed and dock bottom checks were carried out. Once the examinations have been completed, dock number 4, where mega container ships dock, will be opened to maritime traffic. Container ship capsized in Marport

The 'Amnah', with 15 people on board, lost stability, started to list and finally capsized at dock 5 of the Ambarlı-Marport in Istanbul on Dec 22, 2024, at 10 p.m. forcing 3-5 people to jump into the water, where they were picked up by the pilot boat 'Marin Pilot 2'. Ohers could flee from board onto the quay with a ladder. The ship had started healing to port side during cargo operations and leaned towards the quay, with containers shifting. One crew member sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. Finally the 'Amnah' rolled over and capsized completely, leaving only its starboard side above the water, and several containers fell into the water. The ship had arrived in Istanbul from Derince at Izmit Bay. An oil boom was laid out to prevent pollution.
