AmaWaterways officially welcomes AmaLea to river cruise fleet
AmaWaterways has officially welcomed AmaLea to its European river cruise fleet with a traditional christening ceremony led by renowned travel industry expert and ship godmother Filomena Andre. In time-honoured maritime tradition, Andre named AmaLea and broke a bottle of champagne against her hull to bring her good luck during the ceremony, which took place in Vilshofen, Germany. “I am honoured to serve as godmother of this breath-taking ship,” said Andre. “I have long admired Rudi, Kristin, the Murphy family and the rest of the AmaWaterways team for their commitment to delivering excellence in so many aspects of the business. AmaLea is evidence of their dedication to providing guests with an exceptional river cruise experience, and I will forever have fond memories of this very special moment, helping to officially welcome her to the company’s incredible European fleet.”
AmaLea starts inaugural cruise season in Amsterdam
AmaWaterways’ newest ship AmaLea has welcomed guests for the first time ahead of her official christening by travel industry executive Filomena Andre in Vilshofen, Germany on 26 May. The 156-guest river cruise vessel embarked on her inaugural ‘Tulip Time’ voyage from Amsterdam in The Netherlands on 27 March and will call at destinations along the Dutch and Belgian waterways before returning to Amsterdam on 1 April.
Fire on cruise ship soon under control
On Nov 8, 2017, at 11.40 a.m. a fire broke out aboard the "Amalea" which was berthed alongside the "Alena" at the Vahali Shipyard on the Waal near Gendt. Among other forces of the fire brigade, also a boat was alerted, but it could soon return to the base after the fire was extinguished by the local fire brigade. It was caused by welding werk on the ship which was still under construction. It seemed likely that oil had started to smoulder under a coating. The workers could save themselves in time. There was an ambulance on the spot because an employee had inhaled smoke. The work on the yard has meanwhile resumed.
