ALOHA
On June 15, 2015, at noon, the "Aloha" ran over a stone on the canalized Leie river in Deinze. The hull was breached, and water began to seep into the ship. The "Aloha" was loaded with vegetable oil bound from Ghent to Rotterdam and had sailed at 8.40 a.m. The skipper did not hesitate and berthed his vessel at the quay of the oil company Van Damme at the Europalaan. The fire rescue was alerted to the wharf in order to pump the water out of the hold and could quickly neutralize leaked oil. Twelve firefighters and a diver were sent to the site. The Ghent Fire Department brought three additional pumps so that the ship could be saved. The leak was temporarily patched so that the ship could continue its journey.
