Medevac off Fraserburgh
The Fraserburgh Lifeboat “The Willie and May Gall” was launched on service late in the afternoon of Nov 27, 2012, at 4.15 p.m. to go to the assistance of a crewman of the "Aberdeen". The man had fallen ill aboard the oil tanker which was lying 18 miles WNW of Fraserburgh. The lifeboat headed into a stiff breeze and punched its way through 2.5 metre waves. As the lifeboat was being launched, the tanker lifted its anchor and headed towards meeting the rescue vessel at a point 15 miles WNW of Fraserburgh. On arrival on scene in a heavy swell the coxswain had to use all his experience and expertise to manoeuvre the lifeboat into a position and keep her steady. The crewman from the tanker had to climb more than 25 feet down a pilot ladder and was then helped aboard by the volunteer lifeboat crew onto the pitching rolling deck. The casualty was quickly and safely seated in the wheelhouse and on arrival back in Fraserburgh was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
