Ferry with 12 crew sinks off Japan
Japan's coastguard is rushing to a sinking ferry with a crew of 12 Indonesians aboard after the vessel put out a distress call. "We received a call for help by radio," said a coastguard official, adding the boat was near to the southern island of Yakushima. The ferry was being taken from Onomichi in Japan's Hiroshima prefecture for use in Indonesia, said the official. "No more details are available for now as our plane and ship have yet to arrive at the scene," some 1,000 kilometres south of Tokyo, he said.
