Dubai Cruise Port Set for Biggest Season Yet, Gears Up for Brand-New Terminals

Dubai cruise port has revealed it is on track to welcome one million cruise passengers by 2020. In the same year, the cruise port will see the opening of Dubai Harbour -- a brand-new waterfront facility featuring two cruise terminals that will accommodate up to three cruise ships at any one time -- taking Dubai's cruise ship capacity to eight. The new development is expected to accommodate up to 1.2 million cruise passengers annually. Carnival Corporation and Meraas to develop Dubai as regional cruise hub

Carnival Corporation and Dubai-based holding company Meraas have signed an agreement to develop the Dubai Cruise Terminal and transform the emirate into a maritime tourism hub for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Arabian Gulf region. The agreement was signed on 14 May by Carnival Corporation president and CEO Arnold Donald and group chairman of Meraas His Excellency Abdulla Al Habbai. It was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Crown Prince of Dubai HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also attended the event. “We welcome visitors from across the world and provide them with an exceptional tourism experiences,” said HH Sheikh Mohammed.

Drydocks World Completes World’s Largest Mooring Turret

Drydocks World the leading provider of maritime and offshore services to the shipping, oil, gas and energy sectors marked a major milestone in successfully completing the world’s largest turret mooring system with His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group attending the sail-away and completion ceremony to celebrate the occasion. At almost 100 meters high, weighing over 11,000 tons and with a diameter of 26 meters, the turret will ensure the Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility can operate safely in the most extreme weather conditions. This innovative FLNG storage and production facility will be stationed by Shell at its Prelude gas field off the northwest coast of Australia, unlocking new essential energy resources offshore to meet growing demand.
