Port of Bergen to develop Environmental Port Index

Fri Oct 20 08:18:50 CEST 2017 arnekiel

A selection of some of the largest cruise ports in Norway, including the Port of Bergen, have agreed on a model for a future Environmental Port Index (EPI). The goal is to provide economic rewards for the ships with the lowest environmental footprints to encourage others to reduce their own. While many Norwegian ports use the Environmental Ships Index (ESI), the EPI will focus on emissions from ships while at berth. “The ports signed the agreement in June 2017, and after our second network meeting we have agreed on the way onwards,” said Even Husby, head of environment at Port of Bergen. “This autumn we will continue work with DNV-GL to develop the model further.” Ports currently participating in the project include the Port of Stavanger, Port of Oslo, Port of Aurland/Flåm, Port of Stranda/Geirangerfjord, Port of Ålesund, Port of Molde & Romsdal, Port of Trondheim, Port of Eidfjord, Cruise Destination Hardangerfjord, Port of Tromsø, Norwegian Ports Association, More at http://www.cruiseandferry.net/articles/port-of-bergen-to-develop-environmental-port-index

Port Of Bergen Says Yes To Shore Power

Mon Aug 17 09:44:31 CEST 2015 arnekiel

Recently, the Norwegian Port of Bergen became the first port to provide a low-voltage shore connection facility and joined the growing network of ports offering onshore power supply for commercial ships. On 17 June, the port officially opened its shore power system for offshore supply vessels (OSV) by connecting the anchor handler Skandi Vega, a DOF Group vessel to the Norwegian grid. In this week's spotlight, Fathom explore the concept of onshore power supply and the benefits that both the Port of Bergen and ship owners can reap from 'plugging in'. http://shipandbunker.com/news/features/fathom-spotlight/524278-fathom-spotlight-the-port-of-bergen-says-yes-to-shore-power

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines celebrates its 200th anniversary by bringing its fleet together for Bergen party

Sun Jun 21 19:30:07 CEST 2015 arnekiel

Four of a kind – Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ fleet will be together in one place for the first time when they meet in the Norwegian port of Bergen on 28th July. Marching bands and other entertainment will greet the ships’ 4,000 passengers, who will be given the chance to compete in an inter-ship treasure hunt around the city. The crews will take part in a tug-of-war competition. The event coincides with the 200th anniversary of the birth of the first Fred Olsen, who founded a shipping company that operates ferries in the Canary Islands and offshore power installations as well as the cruise line. The 4Bs in Bergen day brings together Balmoral, on an eight-night cruise from Southampton; Braemar, sailing a 14-night voyage from Dover; Boudicca, on a seven-night itinerary from Newcastle; and Black Watch, which will set out from Liverpool for a nine-night voyage. From Bergen, Balmoral will be continuing to Flam; Braemar and Black Watch will be meeting up again in Eidfjord; and Boudicca will be sailing to Alesund. http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/travel/fred-olsen-cruise-lines-celebrates-5909767
