Majority of cruise ships making stops in Sitka this summer will be coming in to dock
Holland America Line has agreed to tie all its ships up at the Old Sitka Dock, meaning 45 ships will be bringing tourists directly to shore. This is a big change from years past, where Holland America ferried their passengers to town via tender boat. The news of the big cruise line tying up in town was music to the ears of Fred Reeder, the port director of Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska in Sitka. “Oh, I am ecstatic,” Reeder said. “Doing 20 years of riding tenders, I mean we’re talking in the tens of thousands of tender boats I’ve ridden, I’m happy not to get on another tender.” http://www.alaskapublic.org/2016/04/26/sitka-cruises-to-bring-passengers-to-shore/
Sitka dock to get first regular visits in 2013
A businessman who spent millions of his company’s money to build a cruise dock outside of Sitka two years ago will finally get his first regular customers. The Seven Seas Navigator and the Regatta have both announced plans to dock at Halibut Point Marine in 2013. For Chris McGraw, it means his wait for business is finally over, but the work of moving thousands of people from a ship to town is just beginning. http://www.kcaw.org/2012/12/04/sitka-dock-to-see-first-regular-customers-in-2013/
