Passenger ship burns at Ormoc port

Sat Aug 15 09:05:30 CEST 2015 arnekiel

A passenger ship, owned by Roble Shipping, carrying more than 500 passengers caught fire at Ormoc port in Leyte early Saturday (August 15). The ship left Cebu at 10 p.m. Friday (August 14) and docked at Ormoc port at 4 a.m. this morning. Capt. William Isaga, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Eastern Visayas, said there are 544 passengers listed in the ship's manifesto. Initial reports said that all passengers and crew members were able to come out of the ship, added Isaga. As of this posting, no casualty was reported and no one was injured in the fire. According to Senior Fire Officer 3 Roberto Ygoana, the fire started at the bottom of the ship where the cargo is placed. The PCG is now monitoring the possibility of oil spill. Isaga said the maritime casualty investigation team and the Maritime Industry Authority will investigate the incident.

Super Shuttle Ferry 15 runs aground off Merida; 221 rescued

Thu Aug 23 19:53:58 CEST 2012 arnekiel

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has safely rescued the 221 passengers and crew of M/V Super Shuttle Ferry 15 that ran aground off the coast of Merida, Leyte late Tuesday night, August 21, 2012. Probationary Ensign Jamaal Aceron, the officer–in-charge at the PCG Ormoc when the incident happened, said the passenger ship encountered engine problem around 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday, two hours after it left the Ormoc port for Cebu City. “All passengers and crews are now safe and the company facilitated their travel to Cebu City this morning. Four PCG personnel are now in the boat to conduct investigation,” Aceron said. Of the 221 on board, 185 are passengers and 36 crews. Aceron said six passengers stayed in the boat until Thursday afternoon to watch for their cargoes. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/tacloban/local-news/2012/08/23/ship-runs-aground-leyte-221-rescued-239002
