Port Tawfiq receives first tourist ship in 9 years
The governor of Suez, al-Araby al-Sarwy, and security director of Suez, Major General Magdy Abdel Aal, received the Port Berlin ship at Port Tawfiq on Friday. It is carrying 275 German tourists and 169 crew members. The ship is the first to visit the port in nine years. It was coming from the port of Sharm el-Sheikh to visit Suez's archeological areas. A major celebration to welcome tourists was held upon their arrival. Berlin is the first tourist ship to arrive in Port Tawfiq in nine years, since the sinking of the al-Salam 98 ship. There was a pilot run last year for the port, which received pilgrims during Umrah, but it was closed again afterwards. The Suez governor welcomed tourists with roses and leaflets in foreign languages on archeological areas in the governorate. He offered the ship's captain the shield of the Suez governorate and gave his assistants commemorative medals.
A retained ferry hinders a tourist vessel berthing at Hurghada port
The existence of the retained ferry ”ElMuttaheda” for years on Hurghada port’s berth [n the Red Sea has prevented receiving the tourist vessel ”Notika” coming from Sallala Omani port on board of which hundreds of tourists. The vessel informed Hurghada port officials of its arrival but it has been converted to berth at Safaga seaport, as Hurghada quay was occupied with the nonworking “ElMuttaheda” ferry, the company said in its press release. Navigational port sources has declared that the ferry is there since four years and that it threatens the cancelation of big tourist vessels cruises during this season as the port’s berth does not have capacity for other vessels due to the existence of the ferry in the middle of which. Sources also added that other three giant tourist vessels of length 320m have announced their arrival at the port this current week and are waiting for an answer whether they have place on the berth or not.
